The game in brief

Classic roulette with a charge of electricity

Lightning Roulette is Evolution's take on European roulette, and it is one of the most played tables in the VegasNow live lobby. The wheel is the familiar single-zero layout, with pockets numbered 1 to 36 and one green 0. A dealer spins it in a studio, you bet through the panel on your screen, and the ball decides the round.

What sets it apart happens after betting closes. Between one and five numbers are struck by lightning and given a random multiplier from 50× to 500×. If your straight-up bet is on a struck number and the ball lands there, you are paid at that multiplier. To fund those boosted payouts, an ordinary straight-up win pays 29:1. Everything else on the table pays as normal roulette.

A round of Lightning Roulette, step by step

1. Place your bets. A countdown opens the betting window. You can bet on single numbers, splits, streets, corners, lines, dozens, columns, red or black, odd or even, and high or low, exactly as on any European table.

2. Betting closes and lightning strikes. Once the timer ends, between one and five numbers are picked at random and lit up on the table with their multipliers, each somewhere from 50× to 500×. Nobody can bet after this point, so you never know in advance which numbers will be struck.

3. The ball is spun. The dealer launches the ball and it settles in one of the 37 pockets.

4. Payouts. A straight-up bet on the winning number pays its multiplier if that number was struck, or 29:1 if it was not. Every other winning bet is paid at the usual roulette rate, whether the number was struck or not.

That last point matters. The lightning multipliers apply only to straight-up bets on a single number. If you prefer red or black, dozens or columns, the game plays like the roulette you already know, with the added show of the lightning strikes overhead.

Worked examples with real stakes

The easiest way to understand the payout structure is to run a few bets through it. Each example below uses a A$1 straight-up bet on number 17.

What happensPayout ruleWin on A$1
Ball lands on 17, which was not struck29:1A$29 plus your A$1 stake back
Ball lands on 17, struck at 50×50×A$50 plus your stake
Ball lands on 17, struck at 200×200×A$200 plus your stake
Ball lands on 17, struck at 500×500×A$500 plus your stake
Ball lands on any other numberLostNothing

Now compare an outside bet. A A$10 bet on red pays as standard roulette whether or not any red numbers were struck, so a win returns A$10 plus your stake. The lightning strike has no effect on it.

The lesson is simple. Lightning Roulette moves some of the value of straight-up bets out of the regular 29:1 payout and into rare, larger multipliers. Most of the time your winning single number pays less than it would on a standard table, and occasionally it pays far more. If that sounds like fun, spread small stakes over a few single numbers. If you want steady, low-drama play, outside bets behave exactly as they always have. Many players mix the two, keeping most of the stake on outside bets and adding a small single-number bet each round for a shot at a strike.

Straight-up bets at the VegasNow A$8 bonus cap

With a bonus active, A$8 is the most you can put on one bet. Here is what a single A$8 straight-up bet returns in each case, winnings shown before your stake comes back.

ResultRuleWinnings on A$8
Your number missesLostNone, A$8 gone
Your number wins, not struck29:1A$232
Your number wins, struck at 50×50×A$400
Your number wins, struck at 500×500×A$4,000

That last row is already 80% of the A$5,000 cash-out cap on winnings from a single deposit offer. A second result of that size under the same bonus would run into the cap, which then decides what can leave your account.

Spreading the same A$8 changes the shape, not the odds of any one pocket. A$2 on each of four numbers still means only one pocket wins. If it is one of yours and unstruck, you collect A$58; struck at 50×, A$100. The other three stakes lose either way.

Ways to play

Three styles at the Lightning table

The same wheel suits very different sessions, depending on where you put your chips.

⚡

Chasing lightning

Small straight-up bets on several single numbers. Wins are rarer, but each one has a chance of a 50× to 500× multiplier.

🎯

Splits and corners

Bets covering two or four numbers pay standard roulette rates. A middle path with more frequent wins than single numbers.

🔴

Outside bets

Red or black, odd or even, high or low, dozens and columns. Standard payouts, frequent results and the steadiest ride.

Mistakes we see at the Lightning table

Lightning Roulette is easy to learn, which is exactly why a few habits catch people out. Most of them come from treating the multipliers as more likely than they are.

Covering too many single numbers. Backing twenty numbers straight up feels like a good way to catch a strike, but every winning number that is not struck pays only 29:1, so covering most of the table returns less than you staked on many spins. Fewer numbers at a sensible stake usually makes for a more enjoyable session.

Following the last strike. The Lightning Numbers are chosen at random every round. A number that was struck last spin is no more or less likely to be struck again, and the same is true of the number the ball just landed on.

Raising stakes after a near miss. Watching the ball land one pocket from a 500× number is part of the show. It is not a sign that a big win is due, and chasing it is the quickest way through a budget.

Ignoring the countdown. Bets placed in the last second can miss the window on a slow connection. Put your chips down early, then sit back and watch the strike.

Avoid those four and Lightning Roulette is one of the most entertaining tables we offer, with the familiar pace of roulette and a genuine moment of suspense every round. The same calm approach suits our other headline tables, Crazy Time and live blackjack.

RTP and other roulette tables in our lobby

Evolution's Lightning Roulette page does not quote an RTP figure, so we do not publish one here. The in-game rules panel is the place to check the current figures for each bet type before you play. Whatever the number, an RTP is a long-run average over a very large number of spins. It tells you nothing about the next ten.

If you enjoy Lightning Roulette, XXXTreme Lightning Roulette sits alongside it in the VegasNow lobby as another Evolution variant, and Fortune Roulette from Pragmatic Play Live offers a different studio and presentation. Each table shows its own rules and limits, so read them before you play rather than assuming they match Lightning Roulette. For the wider live floor, including Crazy Time and blackjack, see our live casino overview, and for the full lobby, the games page.

Lightning Roulette, bonuses and loyalty points

Roulette counts 25% toward bonus wagering under our general bonus terms. Every A$100 you stake on Lightning Roulette adds A$25 toward your target, compared with a full A$100 on most slots and A$10 on blackjack or game shows.

Take a A$100 first deposit. The 150% match gives you a A$150 bonus, and at 40× that is A$6,000 of qualifying wagering within 7 days. On Lightning Roulette, that is A$24,000 in stakes. With the A$8 maximum bet per bet while a bonus is active, it is a long road, so most players clear the bonus on slots first and bring cash to the roulette table. You can also decline the bonus at deposit if roulette is your plan. Full details are on our bonuses page.

Roulette earns 1 loyalty point for every A$100 wagered with real money. At the Golden Glimmer level, 200 points exchange for a A$5 bonus in the Loyalty Store, and higher levels get better rates. Bonuses from points carry 40× wagering. Our VIP and loyalty page lays out the levels.

Does a lightning win help VegasNow bonus wagering?

No. Contribution is counted on the stake, not on the payout. An A$8 spin adds A$2 to your target whether the ball misses, lands on red or hits a 500× strike. A straight-up bet and a bet on black also count the same per dollar staked, so chasing multipliers does nothing for the target.

A third-deposit example shows the scale. Deposit A$400 with VEGAS3 and the 50% match gives a A$200 bonus. At 40× the target is A$8,000, which at 25% means A$32,000 of roulette stakes. At A$8 a spin that is 4,000 spins, about 571 a day for 7 days. Separately, that A$400 deposit needs A$1,200 of turnover before related funds can be withdrawn. If roulette is your main plan, the bonuses page explains how to decline an offer at deposit.

Keeping a roulette session under control

Roulette rounds come round quickly and the lightning strikes are designed to keep you watching. Decide your budget and your stake before you sit down. A A$100 session at A$2 a spin gives you 50 spins. Spread across four single numbers at 50 cents each, it is still 50 spins, but each win is smaller and rarer.

  • Check the table limits shown on the table before you join.
  • Place bets early in the countdown so a slow connection does not cut you out.
  • Never increase stakes to chase a multiplier you just missed.
  • Use the deposit limits and self-exclusion in your VegasNow account.

Lightning Roulette on your phone at VegasNow

Lightning Roulette runs in Safari or Chrome with nothing to install. There is no VegasNow app in the App Store or Google Play, so ignore any APK file that claims to be ours. For one-tap access, add the site to your Home Screen: Share then Add to Home Screen in Safari, or the menu then Install in Chrome.

The number grid is small on a phone, and a chip meant for one number can land on the line between two, turning a straight-up bet into a split that cannot be multiplied. Check the layout before the countdown ends. Turning the phone sideways can give the grid more room. The mobile page covers setup in more detail.

Lightning Roulette questions

Quick answers on the wheel, the multipliers and your bonus.

How many Lightning Numbers are there each round?

Between one and five. They are picked at random after betting closes, and each one gets a multiplier from 50× to 500×.

Why does a straight-up win pay 29:1?

The lower rate funds the lightning multipliers. If your single number is struck and wins, you are paid the multiplier instead of 29:1.

Do the multipliers apply to red, black or dozens?

No. Only straight-up bets on a single number can pay a lightning multiplier. All other bets pay as standard roulette.

What kind of wheel does Lightning Roulette use?

A European single-zero wheel with numbers 1 to 36 and one 0, spun by a live dealer in Evolution's studio.

Can I clear my welcome bonus on Lightning Roulette?

Roulette counts 25%. A A$150 bonus at 40× needs A$6,000 of wagering, which is A$24,000 in roulette stakes within 7 days, with a A$8 maximum bet while the bonus is active.

How many loyalty points does roulette earn?

One point for every A$100 wagered with real money. At the starting level, 200 points exchange for a A$5 bonus.

What is the most an A$8 bet can win on Lightning Roulette?

A$8 is the maximum bet while a bonus is active. On a straight-up number struck at the top multiplier of 500×, that returns A$4,000 in winnings. Unstruck, the same win pays 29:1, or A$232. With a deposit bonus running, winnings from that offer are capped at A$5,000 when you cash out.

Can I play Lightning Roulette on my phone at VegasNow?

Yes. The table streams to Safari or Chrome on iPhone and Android, and your balance, bonus and limits are the same as on a computer. There is no store app to download, but you can add VegasNow to your Home Screen. A steady Wi-Fi connection keeps the stream and the betting window in step.

Does a lightning multiplier count extra toward bonus wagering?

No. Roulette counts 25% of the amount you stake, whatever the result. A A$4 straight-up bet adds A$1 to your target whether it loses, wins at 29:1 or is struck at 500×. A big payout grows your balance, but the wagering still moves at the same pace as any other roulette bet.
